GRASSLAND YELLOWFINCH Sicalis luteola
The canary-like Grassland Yellowfinch is a winter visitor to Paraguay. At least that is what everyone thought until late 2006 when pairs were found breeding in Departamento Misiones! Its a sociable bird, often feeding on the ground and frequently in the company of its more colourful cousin the Saffron Finch. When he takes flight listen for his distinctive call, to European birders he will sound just like a Yellow Wagtail Motacilla flava!
