MARSH SEEDEATER Sporophila palustris ENDANGERED MESOPOTAMIAN GRASSLANDS
One of the rarest of all the "Cappucinos" the gorgeous Marsh Seedeater has been a victim of his own beauty. This and other similar species have been illegally trapped en masse for the pet trade at their breeding grounds in Brazil, and the populations have taken a steep nose-dive. It is considered only a passage migrant in Paraguay, but may breed in the flooded grasslands of Ñeembucú, though those breeding grounds have yet to be discovered.
