VIOLET-CAPPED WOODNYMPH Thalurania glaucopis
A large handsome hummingbird confined to Atlantic Forest areas, the male is wholly dark green with a bright violet cap. However, as you can see in (FPAVE3131PH), only at certain angles can the colour of his cap be seen in its full glory, and you will observe flashes of bright purple as he moves his head. The female however is a much duller affair. Extremely similar to the female Fork-tailed Woodnymph, she can be told apart by her green rather than golden crown.
