EN LAGUNA BLANCA SPINY LIZARD Tropidurus lagunablanca
CERRADO CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
The Tropidurus or Spiny Lizards are a group of about 20 species confined to South America which are typical of dry areas. They are shaped somewhat like Agamid Lizards, with flattened bodies and large heads. Superficially similar to the Chaco species Tropidurus spinulosus, it can be distinguished by the smaller nuchal crest, the presence of white spines in the crest, the more pronounced collar and the obvious yellow lips. It is an arboreal species confined to a tiny area at Reserva Natural Laguna Blanca in Paraguay, from where it has been recently described by Carvalho (2016) - download using link below.
